10 Tips to Get Your House Ready For Winter

Winter is right around the corner and you’ve probably already started pulling out snow boots and winter jackets.We’ve got some great tips on getting your house ready for winter.

  1. Pull out your winter wardrobe. Make sure everyone is prepared before the the first snow.
  2. Get rid of old summer clothes you won’t use next year. You don’t need broken swim suits or stained shirts. Get rid of them now and you won’t have to deal with them next spring.
  3. Clean Out the Garage! Do it now and you might be able to park your car in there. If not, at least it will be organized and you’ll be able to walk through it.
  4. Clean Out the Kitchen. This is a great time to go through your cabinets and get rid of the outdated spices and seasonings. You’ll also make room for those foods you need for upcoming holidays.
  5. Get Your Air Ducts Cleaned. This is an ideal time to have this done. You’ll be using your heater and if you don’t have an air conditioner, you’ll be blowing out dust that has been there since last spring. Your allergies will thank you.
  6. Install insulating covers on exterior spigots and have sprinkler systems blown free of water.
  7. Make sure your pipes and water heater are well insulated.
  8. Check or install smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. Put in fresh batteries.
  9. Flip your mattresses and clean your drapes and curtains.
  10. Wash Your Windows! Before it gets too cold outside is a good time to get your exterior windows clean.
