This past January, 4-year-old Wyatt Revels lost his father unexpectedly. It changed his little world forever, and he had a very difficult time coping with the sudden loss. His mom Alysha was at a loss on how to help him.
“Wyatt wakes up crying and doesn’t want me to leave his side,” the 25-year-old stay-at-home mother from Fayetteville, North Carolina said. “Sometimes he asks, ‘Can we go dig up my daddy today?'”
She set up a P.O. Box for him at the local post office hoping that perhaps some letters from friends and family would help give him more support. “[The mailbox is] little. It’s the smallest one they have. I thought I would have to start sending mail myself,” Alysha said.
A local news reporter posted the address on her Facebook page, and the news spread like wildfire. Soon young Wyatt began receiving packages, letters, cards and gifts from all over the world.
As a result of everyone’s efforts, Wyatt has received gifts from people in Belgium, Scotland, England, Australia, Brazil, Holland, South America and Canada. “Each time we receive a package from a different country, we put a mark on a map of the world,” Alysha says.
Wyatt has been smiling a lot more lately thanks to the love and concern of countless strangers. What a great reminder of the good that social media can do!
