A new toy on sale in Argentina is causing a stir among some parents. The fairy toy apparently has male genitalia under its sparkly skirt, and is now being branded as the world’s first transgender doll.
One angry mother posted a picture of it on her Facebook page which began the onslaught of comments. She said she purchased the pretty fairy doll for her 3-year-old daughter, and didn’t realize until after she began playing with it that there was male “genitalia” under the skirt.
There is still no word whether the parts were meant to be there, or if it’s just a manufacturing glitch. Whatever the case, parent’s are upset that they weren’t at least warned.
“It’s very difficult to give an opinion because I’m conscious that it’s a taboo subject in society… but yes, obviously, it’s shocking,” one mom said via Daily Mail.
While many parents are commenting that it could be confusing to a young child and influence their sexuality, the transgender community is commenting that this toy could have made their childhoods much easier.
Child psychologist Ricardo Rodulfo offered his opinion on the toy. He said, ‘It doesn’t matter to a child whether their toy has male genitalia or not. The idea causes more disturbance among adults.’
