Some community members in Rocky Mount, NC are outraged at an Instagram photo that six caucasian female high students posed in over Thanksgiving break. The teens are shown posing in white sweatshirts and white cone hats while pointing their fingers like guns at the camera. Many parents are saying it is KKK inspired and racially offensive. They are demanding that the school district take disciplinary action against the girls.

The photo was not taken on school premises or while school was in session. According to Dailymail, the Nash County Sheriff’s Office interviewed the girls in the photo as well as their parents and concluded that “no laws that were violated.” However, given North Carolina’s history of racial tension, as well as the incident taking place just days after the emotionally charged verdict in the Michael Brown case- they’re calling on school officials to take action. The school is not being very open about any action they will or will not take.

What are your thoughts? They didn’t break the law, but should the school still discipline these girls?
