Two teen sisters were home alone and got into a fight over the remote control.  Someone’s cell phone was broken and the 15-year-old called the police on her 17-year-old sister.  According to their mother, it was nothing more than kid stuff. “But now, my daughter, her reputation is ruined, she’s facing criminal charges.”

The oldest daughter is headed to college in the fall, but since her arrest cannot go home. The police said they noticed scratches on the girls and that is how they decided to arrest them.  The 15-year-old was released to her mother, but the 17-year-old spent two nights in jail and had to pay a $3,000 bond. She has been charged with simple battery.  Part of the bond conditions says she has to stay at least 100 yards from her sister.

“When I was put in handcuffs, that when my sister actually started crying,” 17-year-old, Chelsea said. “I don’t think she actually believed that I would get arrested.”

According to the law in Georgia, where this happened, officers must write out a report when they receive a domestic violence call.  If there is probable cause, standard procedure is an arrest. The police report shows the younger sister threatened to get a knife to stab her sister. The police said they made the arrest to make sure things did not get worse.

Do you think this was just a sisterly squabble or demanded an arrest?

Here’s what the oldest daughter had to say about the fight.
