A man noticed kids in his neighborhood had nowhere to go, so he built a park.  The South Carolina man used his own money to create a space for the community.  He included something for kids and adults.  He says it was the only community without a park.

Alton Murray said he felt the need to give back and he didn’t ask or expect someone else do it. “I did it on my own, did a little bit at a time. Spent 1,000 here, 1,000 there… [to] get it done.”

After about two and half months he had built a picnic area, swings for big kids, playground for little ones, and even a swing for senior citizens. He built the original park about 4 years ago and wants to remodel it soon.

“Everyday there’s 15 to 20 kids that get out of school and come straight to the park. Sometimes I set up the soda over there I put 4-5 things of sodas. We’d got the refrigerator going so they can go and get all the soda they want. Sometimes I put them a big thing of ice cream in the freezer and let them take over to eat. They call me Mr. Murray. Everyone in the neighborhood knows me.”

He only asks that everyone keep it clean for the next time.  Mr. Murray is invested in his neighborhood and the park isn’t the only gift he’s given. He throws a block party every year. He is an inspiration to people everywhere to give back to their community to make it a better place.
