I LOVE our zoo in Colorado Springs! I love that its in the mountains, I love the view of the city from there, I love all the giraffes, I love the programs they put on, I even love the exercise I get! I love the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. They do an awesome job of getting everyone involved and educating others all in a beautiful setting.

Go when there are animal presentations…you never know what you’ll get to do! This is my daughter going behind the giraffes to go feed a buzzard.

If you haven’t been down to see the new elephant enclosure, you really need to go. It is beautiful and you can even feed the elephants now!

We have been to the zoo more times than I can count. When there are visitors staring at their map not sure what is what, I’m the one answering questions. Since we go to the zoo so often, I like to add to the experience by doing new activities when we go. Once I made a picture of Noah’s Arc with several animals missing. Each missing animal spot had clues to where you could find it or what it might be. When my kids discovered what animal it was, they drew it in. Then we took a picture by the spot. Once we dragged out an old Polaroid camera and had so much fun. We got so many comments from the visitors too- when was the last time you saw an old Polaroid camera in action? When we finished, we took the pictures and put them on our zoo map. This time when we go, we are bringing a Zoo Activity Book that I made. It has an activity page and a fact page for 11 of the animals at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo:

  • Reticulated Giraffes
  • African Lions
  • African Elephants
  • Parma Wallbys
  • Reptiles
  • Amur Tiger
  • Grizzly Bears
  • Moose
  • Black Howler Monkey
  • African Penguins
  • Blue Poison Dart Frog

And you can have one too. Just head over to my blog to get your free copy. I’ve arranged it so you can use the book as you naturally walk through the zoo. And here’s some bonus tips: The best place to fill up your water bottle- Scutes Family Gallery. They have a new drinking fountain there that has room for water bottles and the water is always so nice and cold. My favorite bathrooms: If its not too busy, the ones by the Grizzly Grill (by the carousel) or the ones next to the Sky Ride. Favorite spot to picnic- used to be on the other side of the carousel but last time we went we tried out the elephant area which was great.

What’s your favorite part of the zoo?
