1) Make a recycled animal for Earth Day! Learn about recycling by using egg cartons, plastic bottles, corks, bottle caps, grocery bags, or popsicle sticks to make caterpillars, fish, camels, birds and insects. All you need is some glue and a little imagination!

2) Visit the zoo! Go learn first hand about animals, their natural environment, and why it’s important to take care of them. Many zoos have Earth Day activities for kids.

3) Read an Earth Day book! Here are a few your kids will love:

  • Celebrating Earth Day: Circle the Year With Holidays, by Janet McDonnell
  • Every Day Is Earth Day: A Craft Book, by Kathy Ross
  • Keeper of the Swamp, by Ann Garrett
  • Mr. Garbage, by William H. Hooks
  • Gover’s 10 Terrific Ways to Help our Wonderful World, by Anna Ross
  • Tanya’s Big Green Dream, written by Lida Glaser
  • Pollution? No Problem!, by David Morichon
  • For the Love of Our Earth, by P.K. Hallinan

4) Look for some great Earth Day coloring pages on the internet! Look for pages with nature or animals to keep your kids thinking about the environment.

5) Feed the animals! Try making a pinecone feeder for the birds. All you need is a pinecone, some string, and peanut butter mixed with seeds. Then hang it outside for the birds.
