Make Your Own Halloween Caramel Apples

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, but I’m always trying to find fun ways to not make it “all about candy.” With a recent trip to the appel farm, I was inspired to make caramel apples, and why not make them Halloween themed?!

Here’s how you can make fun Halloween Caramel Apples too.

Ingredients/Tools:

  1. 10 Red or green apples (tart apples)
  2. 10 Wooden craft sticks
  3. 1 pound caramel squares (unwrapped)
  4. ΒΌ cup water
  5. Wax paper

Tips:

  1. Use small apples – when you start to add caramel and candy they get bigger and heavier
  2. If you don’t use organic apples, be sure to scrub them hard to get the waxy film off, otherwise the caramel won’t stick well enough.
  3. Add harvest blend M&Ms, orange and black sprinkles, or drizzle white chocolate (to look like a spider’s web) to make your apples extra fun for Halloween.

Directions:

  1. Wash and completely dry apples. (See Tip #2). Remove stems and insert a wooden stick into the top end of each apple. Line a baking sheet with wax paper and set aside.
  2. In a small saucepan over low heat, combine the caramels with water. Cook until smooth, stirring occasionally, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat.
  3. While the caramel is hot, dip the apples in, swirling to coat evenly. Let the excess caramel drip off and place the apples on the wax paper lined baking sheet.
  4. Add any other fun toppings to the caramel apple (M&Ms, sprinkles, drizzled chocolate, nuts). Place in the refrigerator to harden, about 1 hour.

What else would you add to your Halloween Candy Apples?
