Not only is White House chef, Sam Kass, good looking, he’s smart, and he has one of the toughest audiences to cook for…two young girls! We all know how picky little eaters can be but Kass has a few great tips for convincing kids to try new foods.
- “Let ’em shop till they drop.” Next time you’re at the market ask your kids to pick 3 veggies for the fam to eat this week. They get to be a part of the decision making and take credit for some of the meals during the week.
- “Turn them into sous chefs.” Kass told Parenting Magazine “This is the most powerful way to involve kids on a daily basis.” He said, “I’ve found if they chopped and stirred something, it opens their minds.”
- “Hand them a shovel.” There is so much power in growing and harvesting your own food. Kass said, “When a child plants a seed and watches it grow, she takes great pride and her openness to eating something new blossoms.”
Kass has cooked for the Obama family since they lived in Chicago. He is now the assistant White House chef and senior policy advisor for Healthy Food Initiatives, which helped launch Michelle Obama’s project Let’s Move (<span><strong>letsmove.gov</strong></span>). It doesn’t hurt that’s he’s pretty hunky!
