About 2 years ago I started a tradition in my family on Sunday nights: Family movie night. We eat an early dinner, pop some popcorn, and sit down together to watch a family friendly movie. My job is to pick the movie and sometimes I struggle to find a movie that will hold the attention of my 4-year-old, my 6-year-old, and my husband… not an easy job.
When I do find a movie that fits that bill, I like to share with all of my mama friends because, chance are, this movie may also be a hit for your family. I have two movies that we watched for movie night, loved, ended up buying, and watch on a regular basis.
Movie #1: Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader. This is part of the Narnia series made into movies. Although this is the 3rd movie (5th of the book series), you can watch this movie without seeing any of the other films and you won’t be lost. I have seen them all and I think that this was, by far, the best of them. The movie is absolutely aesthetically pleasing. They did such a beautiful job of recreating the environment that C.S. Lewis painted in his books. The beauty of the movie held my attention along with the sweet plot. The kids and my husband loved the plot and the action. It definitely moves at a pace that keeps even a 4 year old stimulated and does a fantastic job at exercising imagination and wonder in both kids and adults.
Movie #2: Percy Jackson & the Olympians. This is another movie made from a book series. With a fantastic cast including Uma Thurman, Rosario Dawson, and Pierce Bronson, this was a surprisingly wonderful film. This is a modern take on the gods and demigods on Mount Olympus… and for some reason it actually works! There is actually some eduction in there amongst the action and great plot. I also have to mention that the young actors are so talented and the movie was very well casted. This was a great journey that will most definitely hold the attention of the whole family.
I hope that you’re family enjoys these movies like my family did. I have to admit, I have been known to throw both of these movie in even after the kids go to bed… yep, they’re that good!
I’m always looking for good movies for our movie night… feel free to share your favorites.
