There are very few desserts in this world that rival the deliciousness of homemade ice cream. I have the most wonderful memories of hot summers on the back porch waiting anxiously for that turning machine to stop so that I could dig in. Who knew that you can make this yummy treat in under 10 minutes with nothing more than some plastic bags and just a few simple ingredients?!

We’ve had this everyday since I heard about this recipe. We are vegan so we found that almond milk also works fantastic for this recipe. The kids have a blast shaking their ice cream & I love that it occupies them for 10 minutes!

This makes about 1-2 servings

  • 1 cup milk – cow, rice, almond, or soy
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (or to taste)
  • 1/2 cup tablespoons salt or rock salt

Preparation:
Mix milk, vanilla and sugar into a pint or quart-sized freezer bag. Seal well.
Fill a larger, gallon-sized freezer bag or plastic grocery bag with ice and add the salt.

Put the smaller bag into the larger bag and seal very well.

Shake and mix for around 10 minutes, until the ice cream thickens. You can let the kids do this as long as they don’t puncture the bags. Let them wear gloves or hold the bags in a towel because it gets cold!
