An 11-year-old boy was put on the sidelines because he made too many touchdowns. Is this a sign that our country is just trying to make everything more fair, for the kids who don’t play as well? I think so.
The 6th grade running back, Demias Jimerson, plays in Arkansas’ Wilson Intermediate League. Previously the league created a rule called the “Madre Hill” rule after Arkansas Razorback, Madre Hill, played there. It says, if a player has already scored three touchdowns and his team has a 14-point lead, then he’s banned from the endzone.
Basically, he has to sit out the rest of the game, pass the ball to someone else or stop and drop. Overall, not too many people have complained about the rule being implemented. Even Jimerson himself says he’s not held back by it. Next year he’ll play in the 7th grade league and that rule does not apply.
I understand the need to give other kids the chance to build their skills. It’s true there are only a handful of kids who have this kind of talent. However, should we try to bring them down a level? Couldn’t they just let him move up and play with the age group ahead of him? Then he’ll be able to build his skills.
