There are many amazing kids out there making a difference in their communities. One girl caught my eye when I was reading about local homeless shelters and produce donations. Katie Stagliano began a program called Katie’s Krops when she was only 9-years-old. She brought home a cabbage seedling as part of a third grade cabbage program. It grew to 40 pounds and she donated it to a soup kitchen where it helped to feed more than 275 people. She saw how much fresh produce could benefit local soup kitchens and she decided to start vegetable gardens and donate the harvest to help feed people in need. Today, Katie’s Krops donates thousands of pounds of fresh produce from numerous gardens to organizations that help people in need. Katie is now a 12-year-old student at the Pinewood Preparatory School in Summerville, S.C.
It’s refreshing to see kids doing good things for others. Katie is a reminder that kids can make a difference and be a positive influence in their communities. Do you know a kid who is making a difference in their community? We’d love to hear about them. Send us their story by clicking here.
