The U.S. Product Safety Commission and phil&teds of Fort Collins announce the recall of “metoo” tabletop clip-on seats for children.

The metoo clip-on chair is an infant and toddler chair that has a nylon seat and metal frame that connects to tables using vice grips. Chairs were sold in red, black and navy. The chairs included in the recall do not have black spacers between the clamps and cross-bars.

Missing or worn clamp pads allow the chair to become detached from the table; children’s fingers can also be caught between the bar and clamping mechanism when detached; and user instructions are not adequate increasing the risk of injuries.

Nineteen reports of the chair falling have been reported and five injuries have been reported, including two where fingers have been severely pinched, lacerated, crushed or amputated.

Approximately 54,000 of the chairs are included in the recall. These chairs were also included in a May 2011 product safety alert. The chairs were available at Buy Buy Baby, Target, Toys R Us, and online sites for $40 to $50 from May 2006 to May 2011.

Consumers should immediately stop using the product and contact the company to receive a free repair kit and revised user instructions. Consumers who previously received a repair kit with only rubber boots should also stop using the chair and contact the company for the new repair kit.
