Five-Minute Chocolate Cake

This cake is so easy and fun that the kids can make it almost completely by themselves, but it’s also so delicious that it’s a great treat when you’ve had one of those days!

Five-Minute Chocolate Cake

  • 4 Tbsp flour
  • 4 Tbsp sugar
  • 2 Tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 egg
  • 3 Tbsp milk
  • 3 Tbsp vegetable or canola oil
  • 3 Tbsp chocolate chips, butterscotch or peanut butter chips, or a spoonful of peanut butter (optional)
  • splash of vanilla extract (almond is delicious, too!)

Spray inside of mug with non-stick cooking spray. *You can mix all of your ingredients in the mug so you only have one thing to clean, but I find they mix better in a bowl or measuring cup.

Mix all dry ingredients well. Add eggs and mix well. Add milk, oil and extract, and mix well. Fold in chips/peanut butter, if using.

Add all ingredients to large mug.

Now comes the testing phase, based on your microwave. Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 2 minutes. Your cake might rise over the top of the mug but that’s okay! Check to see if your cake has risen and if it pushes back when you press on it. If it gives, but isn’t wet, you’re good to go! For my microwave, it’s about two and a half minutes.

Let cool slightly and eat right out of the mug!

I also like to poke a few holes in the cake and drizzle caramel in them to soak through.

Enjoy!
