Most restaurants have kids’ drinks that are served in kid sized cups. Parents in Colorado Springs didn’t think twice when they ordered “Shark Nibbles.” The “sweet and fruity” drink is served with a shark toy. Unfortunately, the Joe’s Crab Shack served the six children, between the ages of 2 and 8 years old, “Shark Bites,” which have alcohol. About 30 minutes after the kids received their drinks, the waitress came and took the drinks away. She said they had the wrong ingredients in them. Of course they were the wrong ingredients, because kids’ drinks don’t usually contain rum, vodka, and curaçao.
The waitress had this to say: “Then the managers actually came back with the tray of drinks and then let us know that they had accidentally poured alcohol into our kids’ beverages.”
The adults were quite upset about the mistake. Joe’s Crab Shack released a statement:
“Joe’s Crab Shack is aware of this incident at the Colorado Springs Location, and we are investigating this matter internally. We do not condone underage service of any kind. Our guests can rest assured that our processes are continuously examined so that incidents like this are avoided. “
The children were all checked out by paramedics and sent home. This seems to happen periodically at different chain restaurants around the country. How do we, as adults, make sure our kids aren’t getting alcohol due to a mistake? Are we expected to taste our kids’ drinks every time we eat out?
