Did you know that nearly half of the main earners in US households are moms? A recent study found that moms make up about 40% of the major earners in US homes. Just one year ago that number was around 30%.
The study, “2014 Marketing to Moms,” polled over 2,500 women in the United States, China, the United Kingdom, and Germany.
- U.S. female breadwinners throughout this country and Chinese women city dwellers are equally stressed juggling work and family obligations.
- Women from both the U.S. and China also found that they are envious of couples who spend more time together and of parents who have more time with their children than they do.
Why the sudden increase in women breadwinners? Some experts believe that following a financial crisis, men have usually lost their jobs and are unable to find new ones. Also, more women have college degrees than men and that impacts their salaries. Obviously, single moms are not usually seeing excess money from their jobs. However, in two income families, that extra money is significant.
