Another school has decided not to allow kids to wear their Halloween costumes to school. Some parents are upset about this decision. “I think it’s stupid, it’s not fair for the kids and I mean if some people don’t want to participate, then don’t participate, but they shouldn’t take it away from all the kids.”
These parents need to get over it. They can let their kids wear their costumes every hour of every day at home and anywhere else they go. Schools do not have to have parties or offer opportunities for kids to wear their Halloween costumes. That is what Halloween night is about. Dressing up to go trick-or-treating is fun and parents are free to let their kids participate.
Schools are for learning, not for showing off costumes. Many schools allow kids to dress up for things like Red Ribbon Week or during School Spirit Week. Most schools are limited to only a certain number of “parties” or “celebrations” they can have each year.
Parents need to chill out and stop getting upset because their little sweetie can’t wear her witch costume to class. Go to school to learn and have fun on Halloween night trick or treating and dressing up.
