As a mom, there have been days where I literally needed three clones of me to get my kids where they needed to be all at the same time! When schedules overlap and time is tight, sometimes it’s an impossible task.
One new company is banking on this transportation and time issue by providing a shuttle service for kids. They call themselves Shuddle. It is a ride-sharing service that connects riders with drivers through a smartphone App. The idea isn’t totally new. There are other similar services out there called Uber and Lyft, however this one is different because it caters to children.
The idea of entrusting a stranger with your child may seem scary but Shuddle says they only hire drivers with two references proving they have worked with children in the past.
According to Today.com the Shuddle process is as follows:
1. Parents can download the app and sign up for a Shuddle Pass membership, which costs $9 a month (plus fares for each ride).
2. Rides can be scheduled anywhere from a day to a week in advance through the app.
3. The driver arrives and answers a secret word chosen by the family to confirm their identity as a Shuddle driver.
4. Parents can watch the progress of their kids in real time on their phones.
5. Once the ride is over, parents get a message from Shuddle telling them their kids have reached their destination.
So far this service is only available in the San Francisco area, but owner Nick Allen hopes to expand in the future.
What are your thoughts? Would you trust your child with an unknown driver?
