Out of 196 countries in the world, did you know there are only 7 that don’t have any laws requiring paid maternity leave? Six of those countries are undeveloped, and the 7th is…you guessed it. Us.

The United States is the only developed country in the entire world that doesn’t offer paid benefits. There are some American companies like Google, Disney and Buzzfeed that do, but they are few and far between. The U.S. does offer 12 weeks of maternity leave with job security, which just means your job will still be there when you come back, but it is unpaid.

Some countries even offer baby gift baskets, free daycare, and paternity leave for fathers!
