I cannot believe that we are only a few days away from the year 2014! Whatever happened to “we’re going to party like it’s 1999”? For some of you young mommies you might not even remember that song, ha ha. Well no matter what the year, it is time for the traditional New Year’s resolution. I always make a New Year’s resolution but I am a girl that likes to set personal goals on a regular basis anyway. Every Monday I set a goal for the week, something that I’m going to try to strive for, usually it has to do with health and fitness but not always. I think setting goals for yourself is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT in any area of your life. I also think it’s incredibly important to write your goals down. When I have my goals written down for some reason it seems to stick with me and to be more important to me. Today I am going to give you my “two cents” on how you should construct your New Year’s resolution and use my New Year’s resolution as an example.
First, go ahead and make a broad resolution, my resolution for this year is to try to cook more clean meals not only for myself but also for my family and to really try to get my kids even more involved in daily exercise. Now if I would leave my goal that broad I don’t think I would stick with it. If we have a busy week and I find myself throwing more frozen pizzas in the oven, making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or pouring of bowl of cereal for dinner then I would probably give up on my New Year’s resolution or just kind of forget I had even made it. But if I take that broad resolution and start putting it into monthly and weekly goals then that’s a lot more achievable.
I have to be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel to really work towards something. So building off of my resolution my monthly goal for January is going to be to get my kids registered for the commit to be fit race series so they will need to start running some just to prepare themselves for the race. This can also translate into weekly goals as well when I sit down to make my grocery list that first week in January I am going to put more clean meals into the week and even maybe try to plan some time to set aside for food prep at the beginning of the week.
Now, I have used these ideas in my own personal New Year’s resolution but you can use them with yours as well? It does not matter if your New Year’s resolution is fitness or anything, TRY THIS SYSTEM!!! Get ready for 2014 ladies I think it will be the best year yet!!! HAPPY NEW YEARS!!!!!
