Amazon Prime members can now purchase diapers and wipes for a fraction of the price of big brands like Huggies and Pampers. The brand will be called Amazon Elements. It will only be available to Amazon Prime members. It may be worth the $99 membership fee. They are hoping to charge $7.99 for a 40-count pack of diapers, which is about 19 cents per diaper. Big brands like Huggies and Pampers are around 24 – 24 cents per diaper.
It seems that Amazon has been working to increase its own brand of products called consumables. The idea is that the company can drop the price for consumers by working directly with a manufacturer, eliminating the middle man. You may recognize such private labels from Target, Costco, and Trader Joes.
Amazon Prime already offers music, videos, and two-day delivery on a large number of products. Prime members buy almost twice as much as non-Prime members on a yearly basis. It makes sense that Amazon would offer perks for Prime members. Do you use Amazon Prime? Would inexpensive diapers persuade you to join Amazon Prime?
