Are New Moms Exempt When It Comes to Fashion?

When I had my first baby I spent the first few weeks in nursing bras, sweat pants and my husband’s t-shirts. I was new to being a mom and only left the house for doctor’s appointments. What I was wearing wasn’t high on my list of priorities. It was different with the next baby and I was up and around and out of the house sooner. Still, fashion wasn’t high on my list.

Now, my kids are older and I have more time to dress and shop. I look for clothes that look good on me, but I’m far from a fashionista. Last night on Kate Plus 8, Kate stated that while her kids were babies and toddlers, it didn’t make sense to wear anything but t-shirts because she was always covered in “food, snot and vomit.” She said that moms get a fashion “exemption” from the beginning of pregnancy until their kids are about 5. The word she used was “frumpily” as in moms can live frumpily because they’re moms.

What do you think? Do moms get an exemption from fashion just because they are moms?
