Most kids have stolen something at least once in their life. It happens, parents usually set things straight, and the kid goes on to lead a life without becoming a criminal. However, sometimes strange things happen, like this incident in Post Falls, Idaho.

Chief of Police, Scott Haug, said he was surprised to see an arrest warrant for 9-year-old boy. He said he had never seen something like this in his 30 years of service. The most surprising thing was that the boy had been charged for stealing a pack a gum.

It is common for store owners to press charges against children for stealing, but this seems over the top. Because the 9-year-old failed to go to his court date, twice, he was arrested and is being held in a juvenile detention center.

Chief Haug said he wished he would have known so that they could have helped the family. Many say that this should have fallen on the parents and the child shouldn’t be in jail. Do you think this was a little much for a pack of gum or is there more to this story?
