Baby monitors are a common thing to find in any house with kids. They started out as just sound, but have advanced to video that parents can view from their smart phone.  This means that anyone with the Internet can access the feed.

A family in Minnesota thought their camera was ideal, but soon learned otherwise.  The family, who wishes to stay anonymous, said they hear music coming from the nursery.  “We were sleeping in bed, and basically heard some music coming from the nursery, but then when we went into the room the music turned off.”

They used the camera software and found the IP address from the access logs.  The music was coming from Amsterdam.  When they went to the website attached to the IP address, they found thousands of other camera feeds and pictures.

“There’s at least fifteen different countries listed and it’s not just nurseries — it’s people’s living rooms, their bedrooms, their kitchens…Every place that people think is sacred and private in their home is being accessed.”

She also said that the hackers can move the camera around the room and that is a scary thought.  “This isn’t just you know Rochester, Minnesota.  You can literally just sort by whatever country suits your fancy, and whatever room suits your fancy.  It’s pretty sick.”

They suggest changing passwords often or just sticking with the old fashioned way of checking in on your children.
