There are mothers out there who give their toddlers coffee. Yes, you read that correctly, about 15 percent of moms are giving their 2-year-olds coffee.
The study, out of Boston Medical Center (BMC), found that these toddlers are consuming an average of 4 ounces of coffee every day. This is not a good thing and can cause lots of problems for the children in the future. BMC reported that “previous studies suggest that coffee and caffeine consumption among children and adolescents is associated with depression, type 1 diabetes, sleep disturbances, substance abuse and obesity. While coffee consumption in infants has not been deeply explored, one study did show that 2-year–old children who drank coffee or tea in between meals or at bedtime had triple the odds of being obese in kindergarten.”
The researchers said they started looking into what drinks mothers were giving their children. They included various juice, milk, and water at first. However, as the study went on they had to add coffee to the list because they found so many mothers who were giving it to their children.
