This is a fun Christmas project you can do with your kids. After Christmas is over you can use the ornaments as crayons!
What You Need:
Broken Crayons
Regular muffin tin or Christmas shapes muffin tin
Pipe cleaners
Instructions:
We suggest lining the bottom of the oven with aluminum foil in case some of the wax overflows or drips into your oven. It makes clean-up MUCH easier
- Preheat oven to 250 degrees.
- Peel the protective paper off of the crayons.
- Place pieces of broken crayon in the muffin molds OR you can use a cheese grater and shave the crayons on a piece of paper and then funnel into the muffin tin.
- Melt crayons in the oven. This can take anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes, depending on how thick the tins are.
- Carefully, remove the tins from the oven. They are hot and can spill, so be careful.
- Twist loops into your pipe cleaners and place, stem end, into the top of the shape. The pipe cleaners will be your hangers.
- Let them cool completely in the molds before removing.
- If you want, you can use a nail to “write” your kid’s name into their ornament.
You can store these in a cool place throughout the year and reuse next Christmas. However, if they get hot, they’ll melt. We like the idea of just using them as fun crayons after you take down your tree.
