Featured Park: Boulder Park

One block west of Memorial Hospital Central is the ever-popular Boulder Park. This sprawling space always seems to host walkers, parties, families enjoying themselves. It’s less than a mile away from the Olympic Training Center, so if you need a picnic spot after touring the center, this is it.

Boulder Park’s playground is very small– one play set, some swings, and a good sized climbing wall. It strikes me as a little dirtier than other parks, but that could be because the park is aged. Of course the kids don’t mind or notice; they just want to play! The base of the playground is mulch, and it appears to be newly laid.

This central park offers sports facilities– tennis and basketball courts plus a baseball diamond. It seems, however, that most people bring their own activities. On the sunny afternoon that we visited, some college students were slack-lining (apparently that’s a thing now!) between two trees. There were also two separate groups playing volleyball on the grass, which is well-worn and patchy.

If you live nearby, this is a great place for walking to, to let the kids get their energy out. Or if you happen to be nearby, take a break here. But it’s not really worth the drive across town if you’re not already close. Either way, hope you’re still enjoying the summer we have left!
