Fox Run park is one of the largest parks in Colorado Springs. Actually, it is not really in town. Set right on the edge of Black Forest, Fox Run Regional Park is mostly wooded hiking trails– and for that I love it. With 417 acres of trees and four miles of groomed trails, it is hard to get bored here.

Besides the hiking paths, Fox Run has multi-use sports fields, five picnic pavilions, two ponds and two separate playgrounds. The playgrounds are ridiculously popular on the weekends. One of the playgrounds is more suited for little ones. It has four swings, a teeter-totter and spring riders. There are all the play basics, plus great hilly sidewalks for older kids to zoom their bikes or scooters down.

The larger of the playgrounds would probably appeal to older kids more; its slides are slightly taller. Both playgrounds are placed near a sports field, which is perfect for letting the tiny ones play while older siblings have football practice or walk the dog.

In my opinion, the best part about Fox Run Regional Park is the little pond with the fountain. It’s a beautiful place for a picnic; there are benches all around and even a lake-side gazebo. You can catch glimpses of Pikes Peak through the trees at times; it barely feels like you’re on the edge of a city.

If you don’t live on the north side of Colorado Springs, it is a bit of a drive to get out here, but it is totally worth it. Take some time to pay this park a visit soon!
