Have you seen Nancy Lewis? The park, I mean. No? Let me introduce you to one of the prettier parks in Colorado Springs. Nancy Lewis Park, in the central north area, boasts a great view of Pikes Peak, rising above the tops of beautiful trees. A small lake, adorned with a fountain and a waterfall feature, is nestled into one end of the park.
The playground has two sets (big kid/little kid, of course) plus swings and a merry-go-round. The base of the playground is sand, which is a nice break from the more common mulch. Nancy Lewis also has a croquet course– you don’t see many of those around! Pack up the croquet set and have a family tournament here before a dinner picnic. You’ll have your pick of picnic tables and benches; there are plenty.
This is the place to be on a summer Sunday afternoon. We were joined by people walking their dogs around the cement path surrounding the park. A group played volleyball in the soft grass of the large field, although a sand pit was available. I suspect the grass would be nicer to play in. Dads pushed their kids in swings, and sounds from a princess birthday party drifted across the lake. (There is two-picnic table pavilion, by the way). I took my shoes off and wiggled my toes in the long blades– for the first time this summer, I realized. It was glorious. My husband rates this park a ten-out-of-ten. I’d give it the same. So friend, get out and sink your toes in the grass before summer ends!
