Homecoming is always a memorable time when you’re in high school. For one senior, this year’s homecoming is that much more memorable. Mariah Slick was born with Down syndrome and is known throughout her high school as having a warm personality and super nice. Both her parents and Mariah say they never expected she’d be crowned homecoming queen. She rarely misses a football game and is known for cheering on her team.

“She is well-liked by everybody,” her friend Jordan Arnold told CBS. “She is sweet — a real sweetheart!”

She and her parents were both excited when she was nominated for homecoming court, but you can see in the video below she had no idea she’d actually win. She was picked out of the four girls nominated. The cheers from the crowd and her mom’s hugs showed just how pleased everyone was with the choice. Check out the video below to see the look on her face when she was announced as the queen of homecoming. It warms the heart to see others making this girl feel so good.
