It’s a parent’s worst nightmare.  This past Tuesday, 9-year-old Aiden was walking through his Saratoga Springs, Utah neighborhood when he was approached by a man in a SUV.  Although he says he ran and tried to escape, Aiden tripped and the man was able to grab him and throw him in the back of the vehicle.

“He just tried to put duct tape over my mouth, so I couldn’t scream, so I just punched it away,” Aiden said.

The suspect drove a few blocks, and ended up behind a nearby grocery store.

“I said, ‘let me go.’ It was very scary,” Aiden shared with Fox 6 News.

The only thing he could think of doing was to jump out of the moving SUV, which he did, and ended up spraining his ankle.

“My family is more important than breaking a bone,” he said.

Once the suspect realized that Aiden had escaped from the car, he stopped the vehicle and started looking for the young boy.

“He started following me. I hid behind a dumpster,” Aiden said.

It was during this time that Aiden’s quick thinking helped to save him from a potentially very dangerous situation. He used his Gizmo phone to call his mom.

The Gizmo phone is basically a smart watch that is worn around the wrist. It allows the user to call and receive calls from up to 4 people whose contact info is programmed into the watch. It also has a GPS tracker that tracks the user’s location. It’s great for kids who seem too young for a cell phone, but who can still benefit from being able to contact loved ones.

Aiden was able to call his mother, who was able to track him and pick him up within minutes.

“If moms are watching this, get a Gizmo for (your kids),” Aiden said.

Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect. He was driving a tan 90’s Chevy Tahoe and is described as a white male with long dark hair and a goatee.

You can purchase the Gizmo watch from your cell phone provider or through popular online sites like Amazon.com. Depending on your carrier plan they may be free or run anywhere from $35 to $149 to purchase.

I am now seriously considering buying one for my 9-year-old son!
