Dress codes are put in place by high schools to enforce modesty in our youth.  Typically they will regulate the length of skirts and shorts, and not allow bra straps to show, etc.  We have become accustomed to these kinds of rules in most of our schools, but one Kentucky high school’s recent decision to send home a student for a “revealing” outfit has some parents and students outraged.

This was the outfit in question…

Apparently student Jessica Dunn’s outfit was inappropriate because it showed her collar bones.  She was sent to the Principal’s office for the violation, where she saw several other girls there for the same reason.

Jessica’s mom was called down to the school and posted this picture to Facebook with the following comment:

“This is ridiculous! WOODFORD County High School and the principle have been enforcing a dress code where as girls can not show even there collar bones because it may distract their male class mates. Parents are being called away from their important jobs and students are missing important class time because they are showing their collarbones! Something needs to change!”

Dunn brought her daughter a scarf to “cover up” with, but even with the scarf her outfit was considered inappropriate and she was sent home after giving the Principal “attitude”.

What are your thoughts?  Did this school go too far?  Do dress codes need to change?
