Here’s one mom who is definitely not sticking with her “birth plan.” A Utah woman delivered her own baby, while driving herself to the hospital.
Devi Mariah Ostler said her contractions started after she dropped her son off at her mom’s house. She tried to drive to the hospital, but the baby was ready to come.
She called 911 while driving to the hospital. Along the way her water broke. “I’m trying to get over into the other lane — I need to push!” She told the 911 operator that the baby was coming. Officers reached Devi right before she gave birth.
As soon as the officers were with her, she gave birth to a healthy 9 pound baby boy. One of the officer who helper, Trooper Josh Carr said it was an emotional experience for him. “They tell you to be prepared to take a life and give life. Thank goodness this was one of the two I had the opportunity to do. To train for it, there is no training. They tell you how to do it. But this is the only way you’re going to learn is to actually do it.”
