School fundraisers shouldn’t leave you begging your friends and family to buy products they’ll never use and schlepping your kids (or an order form yourself) around town in hopes of selling enough frozen cookie dough to earn a cruddy prize isn’t much fun.

Check out our ideas for school fundraisers that you can suggest to your school or PTA for a happier, more productive fundraising season!

  • Holding a read-a-thon: have students collect pledges per book/page read
  • Holding a walk-a-thon: have students collect pledges for a lap/minute walked
  • Holding a car wash
  • Silent Auction: Asking local businesses to donate items to auction off. Items can be set up in a gymnasium with punch and cookies while attendees bid on items.
  • Collecting Box Top for Education: send in Box Tops from participating products and send in. All funds received from the Box Tops go directly to your child’s school.
  • Collecting Campbell’s Soup Labels: labels are found on hundreds of products and can be sent in to exchange points for products in a catalog of items. Administrators or collection committees decide what products to get based on your school’s need.
  • Host a can collection to turn in at a metal recycler.
  • Ask local businesses to put change jars out to raise money, and use small jars to ask for pocket change donations from friends and family–this is a much less of a burden,
  • Suggest that each family make a smaller, monetary donation in lieu of selling products.
  • Hold a small business fair: invite home business vendors to host catalog parties in the school’s name. Many of these businesses have programs where consultants can donate a portion of their sales to a cause.

School fundraisers don’t have to be difficult or uncomfortable. Sometimes, the most simple ways make the most money!
