Marie Holmes is a single mother of 4 children from North Carolina, and her life is about to change in a major way! Holmes is one of four people who recently won $188 million in a $564 million jackpot lottery, one of the biggest in US history.
Her children range in age from 9 months to 7 years, one of whom has cerebral palsy. She says she plans on using the money to further her education in the nursing field and buy her own home. She currently lives with her mother and looks forward to being self sufficient and having “her own everything.”
26-year-old Holmes has been providing for her children to the best of her ability by working jobs at Wal-Mart, Food Lion, KFC, McDonald’s and Subway. She is grateful she doesn’t have to say “no” to them now when they need or want something, and that she can send them to college without financial stress.
She chose to take a lump sum of $127 million rather than the $188 given out in increments over time. She says her children’s lives will change the most because they will now be able to have their own bedrooms.
