Skipping Breakfast Could Help You Lose Weight

We’ve always heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Experts say skipping breakfast is not a good idea. However, one doctor says the opposite. Dr. Alex Hodge, a gastroenterologist in Australia, found that overweight patients who don’t eat between 8 pm and midday could see positive results.

His study found that those who skip breakfast and don’t eat after 8 pm lost more visceral fat (fat that surrounds the organs, harder to lose), reduced blood pressure, and reduced liver damage. This study group also lost more inches around their waist than the group that ate breakfast. However, when they started eating again during those times, the weight came back.

Dr. Hodge says this is the beginning for him and he hopes to conduct larger studies. “Anything people can do to lose some weight, and especially around the waist, will delay the onset of illness,” Dr Hodge said.
