Sometimes It’s Fun To Make A Mess

While I loathe messes, sometimes it’s fun to do something messy with the kids. Especially if you are clean mom (like me) your kids will love making a mess, and you automatically become the “cool mom” for letting them do a messy activity. Here are 5 messy activities you can do at home:

  1. Yogurt Paint in Highchair: We like to do this one when the big kids are painting at the table. I put Jaxson in the highchair and put a few little spoonfuls of yogurt onto his tray and let him paint away. He may happily and messily paint the tray or his mouth, but as long as he is happy while I am helping the big kids, we are good! *You can also use pudding.

  2. Homemade Finger Paint: easy, quick and fun. All kids LOVE to finger paint! Grab some old t-shirts, throw down some craft paper and let the kids go to town. I like to set up an area on the floor for the kids to use their hands and feet to stop and paint all over the craft paper on the floor. Use painting tape to tape down the craft paper. You can even make designs or write names on the paper with the tape. Click here for the recipe.

  3. Flour play: Grab a baking dish and throw some flower in it. Have them run cars through it, older kids can write letters, shapes, numbers, etc. in the flour. The sensory sensation will keep them happy and engaged.

  4. Exploding Art: This one is REALLY messy, so you’ll want to do it outside. We found a bunch of different ideas on Pinterest, but really like this one. It’s super cool, minimal supplies needed, and the kids will love it. Directions to make these “exploding rockets” can be found HERE, from the blog Housing A Forest.
