Back in 2008, Brandi Temple was a stay-at-home mom to her two girls, who are five years apart.  She became frustrated when they had requested matching outfits, but despite her best efforts couldn’t find any in stores because of their age difference.

She took matters in to her own hands and began designing and sewing her daughter’s clothing. She started a Facebook page and posted her creations for other moms to see.  Soon she was making orders for friends and family members, and eventually moms all over the country were requesting orders.  She named the business Lolly Wolly Doodle.

Perhaps you have thought of starting a small business from home.  What are Brandi’s tips? From the beginning, she had a smart business strategy.  She connected with moms via social media, and created a product that appealed to them.  She actively shared her creations on Facebook and encouraged moms to share, comment and connect on her page.  Soon she had built a feeling of community, and it spread like wildfire.  Hard work and consistency can go a long way!

Now Lolly Wolly Doodle is run out of a factory in her hometown of Lexington, N.C. and is one of the top employers there.  She was even able to create jobs for many when other local businesses were struggling.

“To know that I was blessed with the opportunity to give back and for people to be able to save their homes, it was just giving someone an opportunity to work and to earn it,” she told Good Morning America. “It was pretty awesome.”

In the age of social media, it is easier than ever to have your products seen by many.  With a little creativity and consistency, the sky is the limit for mom entrepreneurs!
