A teacher in Hopewell, Virginia has parents calling for her to be fired all because of her second job. A video has been making the rounds of the teacher performing a burlesque show.
Local news station, WTVR, spoke with parents of students at Hopewell High School. One mom said she does not need to be teaching kids. However, a legal expert said if the video was recorded and circulated without the teacher’s knowledge, she should be able to keep her job.
“This is a legal profession. … She has the right to express herself, and I think it’s protected speech.” According to the ethics code for Virginia teachers, they can be fired for “immorality,” but legally this video probably does not qualify.
