If you’re a woman and wear eye make-up, chances are you have fallen asleep with it on.  Whether it’s a late night out on the town, or a long day with the kids that left you snoozing on the living room floor, we have all awakened to the pleasant “raccoon eye” look followed by a whispered “oh. my. gosh.” when we look in the bathroom mirror.

Don’t worry ladies, because there’s a new trend happening on social media that actually celebrates this look, and it’s called #HangoverMakeup!  Yes, this is a real thing. Just search the hashtag and you’ll find it’s popping up all over Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. Who knew that looking like a drunk raccoon had the potential of actually becoming popular?

The trend started in Asia, and encourages women to accentuate the bags under their eyes. If you don’t already have bags, and want them, just use a darker eye shadow in the crease underneath your eyes to give the illusion of darkness and puffiness. (Wait, this is how I already look every morning!)

One of the key components of hangover makeup is called “aegyo-sal” (which means “charming fat”) and it’s meant to highlight puffiness on the lower eyelid.  In some areas of Asia, puffiness in this area is linked to youth and happiness.

The next step to the look is brushing on some blush under the eye.  This makes you look flushed and sick, which I think is the point…

So, next time you’ve had a rough night, don’t worry!  You probably look much better than you think…in Asia, anyway.
