These Beautiful Girls Are Actually Twins!

Genetics are an amazing thing, and these twin girls prove it! 17 years ago, UK mother Donna Aylmer gave birth to twin girls, Lucy and Maria.  She was shocked when the nurses presented her with her new babies.  Although not identical, the fraternal twins couldn’t have looked more different.  One had fair skin, blue eyes and ginger hair, and the other had dark skin, black curly hair and dark eyes.

How is this possible?  The mother, Donna is half-Jamaican, and the father, Vince is Caucasian.  With fraternal twins, two separate eggs are fertilized which means they each inherit different genes.  One girl inherited the gene for dark skin from mom, and the other girl inherited white skin from dad.

Twin Lucy told Daily Mail UK “It was such a shock for her because things like skin colour don’t show up on scans before birth. So she had no idea that we were so different. When the midwife handed us both to her, she was just speechless,”

The twins have three older siblings who all have skin lighter than Maria’s but darker than Lucy’s.  The only downfall to their different appearances?  They never had the opportunity to play “twin” tricks on teachers at school.
