Ten years ago, Bob Headings suffered an accident that would change his life and world. He fell from a ladder which rendered him paralyzed from the waist down.  A once fit and active man, he was now confined to a wheelchair and his family feared how he would handle this new trial.

Despite it all, he has been positive and cheerful.  His 3 sons and 8 grandsons decided it was time to take him on the adventure of a lifetime.  They planned a trip to hike down the Grand Canyon with their beloved Grandpa in tow.  They each took turns pulling the patriarch of the family in a special makeshift wheelchair for that would work for the terrain.

“It’s basically another step showing people that they can do anything with even the greatest obstacles,” his grandson, Jase Headings, said about the trip in the video captured by John Honaker.

It was truly a remarkable feat, as the Bright Angel and South Kaibab trails are rough and steep, with winding curves. They are certainly not what you would call “wheel chair accessible”!

“It just seemed like a way for us as a family to give back to Dad,” said eldest son Randy Headings.

What a wonderful story of love and sacrifice.  Check out the video below of their adventure!
