I am obsessed with coconut oil! For one, it’s delicious and I try to use it as often as possible when I’m cooking. It’s also natural and has known health benefits, so you know it’s safe and healthy for you and your family to use. The possibilities with coconut oil seem endless. If you haven’t been introduced to the awesomeness of it, go out and get some and try some of my favorite ways to use it below!

1. Cooking/Baking

I love to use coconut oil on my whole wheat toast instead of butter, it’s delicious! It’s also great as a substitute for vegetable oil when frying/sauteeing things like fish, chicken and vegetables. Add a teaspoon in coffee or tea to add richness. Use a tablespoon in your smoothie for added nutrients. Try it over popcorn instead of butter, and use it in homemade salad dressing. Here’s a great recipe.

2. Skincare/Body

Did you know you can use coconut oil as shaving lotion and make-up remover? (The longer lashes is a bonus!) You can also use it as diaper cream, lip balm, as a stretch mark preventer during pregnancy, and a nipple cream during breastfeeding. Here is a simple recipe for DIY sugar body scrub.

3. Hair

Use as an overnight leave-in conditioner. Rub a small amount of oil into hair (mostly at ends), comb through and put hair in a loose bun before bed, and wash out in the morning.

It’s also great as a static reducer (especially during the dry winter months!) Rub a tiny bit in to your hands and run it through your hair to reduce static and flyaways.

4. Miscellaneous

Use it to season your cast iron pan. Make homemade toothpaste with it! Combine equal parts coconut oil and baking soda. Sweeten with stevia and flavor with your favorite essential oil.

There are many other uses as well, these are just some of my favorites. You can do a Google search to find many, many more ideas!
