When my daughter was still in diapers, I remember trying to hide the ugly things. I tried to make sure her shirts were long enough and avoided lower-rise pants at all costs, so this new trend of “designer” diapers is baffling to me.
First, Huggies came out with their “jean” diapers. While at first I thought they were kind of cute, especially in the summer time when a lot of kids are wandering around in a diaper in T-shirt, but now there are other patterned and designer diapers popping up.
I recently heard about more designer diapers, so I headed out to the dreaded diaper aisle to see more than the usual cartoon characters on the front. There were stripes, flowers, argyle and even a special camo print where diapers are donated to military families with each purchase.
I’m not sure I follow the point of the trend. If you don’t want people to see the average diaper, make sure your kiddo has pants or a diaper cover on. At one time or another, most babies wear diapers, so we’re all used to seeing plain white diapers with corny pictures on the front. I don’t think it’s a necessity to spend a lot of extra money on the “designer” diapers–I promise, your baby won’t know the difference!
Would/do you spend extra money on designer diapers with special prints or patterns?
