Katie Kropas, 23, had no idea she was pregnant when she began having back pain and swelling of her feet a couple weeks ago. She thought perhaps it was from her catering job which keeps her standing 50+ hours a week. When her back pain became too much to handle she checked herself in to a Massachusettes hospital where they ran testing, including a sonogram.

“They told me that I had a full-term baby, ready to come now,” Kropas told WBZ TV. “So I found out at 10:15, and I had her at 11:06.” Baby Elle weighed in at 10 pounds 2 ounces!

Kropas said she really had no idea. She thought the weight gain was from too much holiday eating. She had fairly regular periods the entire pregnancy and no morning sickness. She was also on birth control. Her mother, who she lives with, also maintains there were no signs.

She and her boyfriend of 2 years are taking it all in stride now. They have some hectic and chaotic weeks ahead of them, but they are making it work. “It’s going to be a hard couple of first weeks, especially since I didn’t have a lot of time to prepare, but I love her,” she said.
