People lie. People lie A LOT on social media. We probably didn’t need a study to tell us that. However, this study went deeper and found that women lie the most on social media.
The Works Sydney advertising agency released these findings:
- 64 percent of women lied on social media and only about 36 percent of men did so.
- Women lie the most on Twitter, then Facebook and Instagram; Men lie most on Facebook
- Women lie to make others look good; Men lie to make themselves look good
A brand data scientist, Dr. Suresh Sood, said that some people were unaware they were lying and seemed to be deceiving themselves. The bottom line was that people tell “white lies” to gain approval, have their ego stroked, make a good story better, and to manage their personal brand. Others admitted to lying in order to get free stuff, gain social power, or increase their importance.
