A Juárez university student actually made up a story about being kidnapped to avoid telling the truth: that she had been failing classes and would not be graduating with her peers.
Lucina Marquez Gayosso, 23, called her mother after failing to show up for graduation claiming that she had been kidnapped at gunpoint. The girl was found three hours later after a huge search by police. She claimed that she was let go by her captors because of a case of mistaken identity.
Marquez Gayosso admitted to investigators that the entire thing was a hoax; she had even purchased a cap and gown to cover the fact that she was failing.
What’s the right punishment for a situation like this?
