Running errands on the east side of town? Stop by Andrew J. Templeton Park for a break. Set off of Stetson Blvd. near the Powers corridor, this park is the perfect location for getting the kids’ wiggles out before heading to Khols.

The Andrew J. Templeton park is clean and open, surrounded by a quiet neighborhood. It has a great, green field of grass, perfect for a game of Frisbee. A nice sidewalk rims the entire park, so be sure to bring the bikes and helmets. Speed-loving kids will love the open loop to zoom their bikes around. For the ones who can’t keep their feet on the ground, the park offers a small climbing wall and an “Eiffel Tower” rope web. Toddlers will enjoy the four swings, tiny playground and small sandbox. Or, if your little one is like mine, he’ll spend half the playtime jumping off the curb above the shallow drainage ditch into the lush grass. It makes sure makes a mom wonder why we drive all the way across town to visit a playground!

Several benches placed around the park make quiet places for moms to catch up while catching a few rays. In the center of the park is a small pavilion with a single picnic table. The other four picnic tables are strewn around the playground, but they have no shade. In fact, shade is scarce here. Since the subdivision is relatively new, this park’s trees are young and therefore offer no cover from the sun. Enjoy the Andrew J. Templeton park in the morning or evening this time of year to beat the intense mid-day heat.
